Engineering Experts From Eleven Countries Explore Latest Modeling and Design Techniques for
Improving World’s Hydraulic Infrastructure

The 2009 Asia-Pacific Modeling Seminar April 27-28, 2009, in Gold Coast, Australia enjoyed record attendance. The event, held at Q1, the world’s tallest residential tower, lived up to its reputation as the most comprehensive and significant hydraulic infrastructure modeling, design and management technology seminar of its kind.
Attendee feedback on the event was very enthusiastic.
“… a spectacular event,” said Sandeep Kulshrestha, Civil Engineer, Delhi Jal Board. “… a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a feel for the things going on in different parts of the world in the field of water and sewer system modeling. I am eager to attend again.”
“The 2009 seminar was a great success for the second year running,” said Priscilla Chung, Planning Engineer, Manukau Water Limited, New Zealand. “The broad range of technical papers and policy framework presentations were relevant to both system modelers and managers. The seminar provided an opportunity to be updated on new trends in modeling and upcoming challenges for water authorities.”
Organized by MWH Soft and Gold Coast Water, the seminar enjoyed support from a wide range of sponsors throughout the Asia-Pacific region. They included Singapore International Water Week, Singapore; Water Malaysia 2009, Malaysia; Watercare Services Limited and Metrowater, New Zealand; and Australian sponsors Gold Coast Water, Cairns Regional Council, Gladstone Regional Council, GWMWater, Hobart Water, Moreton Bay Water, Riverina Water County Council, Sunshine Coast Water, South East Water Limited and Tweed Shire Council.
The event featured keynote addresses from leading industry experts and top modeling minds as well as in-depth case studies. It also offered another prime opportunity for GIS and engineering professionals, technologists and managers to network, learn, and be inspired by their peers from around the globe.
“The conference was a fantastic forum for water and wastewater professionals to share important up-to-date information and ideas related to infrastructure planning, management and the real-world use of modeling tools,” said Stewart Sargent, Services Development Engineer, Marlborough District Council, New Zealand. “It was the one of the very best conferences I have attended. A thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial experience.”
“The breadth of the seminar topics again showcased the diversity of our industry and the valuable work being performed at home and abroad to safely and efficiently manage our water and wastewater systems through the art of modeling,” noted Ben Millar, Hydraulic Modeling Engineer, Cairns Regional Council, Australia. “Thanks to MWH Soft and Gold Coast Water for bringing industry leaders together to share their knowledge.”
Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., President and COO of MWH Soft, was pleased with the response to this year’s seminar. “This event is always both fun and educational,” he said. “It gives our users a wonderful forum for exploring the state of the art in water/wastewater infrastructure engineering and management.”
Boulos noted that the impact of the experience reaches far beyond the seminar. “The ultimate goals are to design, operate and manage better systems, protect the environment, and safeguard public health, he said. Attendees carry this valuable knowledge back to their organizations, opening new avenues for increasing productivity and performance, enhancing project quality, maximizing return on their software investments, gaining a competitive edge on the future, advancing their careers, and improving the quality of life in their communities. They leave restored, energized, and better prepared to accomplish great things. They also play a significant a role in the future of MWH Soft and our products, inspiring us and pushing us to build great products, a great company, and a great community.”
